On 10 January 2003, Mr. Alain Delaunay, director of the Laval city bus network – STAO – and Mr. Daniel Pointeau, technical manager, took the decision to stop treating the fuel tank with the standard chemical additive they had been using until then to fight bacteria and frost.

At the same time, the treatment of the 50,000 liters of diesel fuel stored in the depot and destined for a fleet of about 80 buses was started with the XBEE enzyme.

After one year of treatment, the following results could be verified:

  • At no time has there been any technical incident attributable to the XBEE enzyme.
  • The conformity inspection of the tank carried out by the specialist company GDDC e.mat on 7 July 2003 showed the effectiveness of the XBEE enzyme very clearly.
  • After an initial drop in consumption in 2003, there has been a further reduction in 2004 of around 3.9 % for the entire fleet. Of the twelve months of 2004, eleven are down; when the exceptional weather conditions of 2003 are known, the capacity of the XBEE technology to reduce engine consumption can be measured even better.

Xbee applies diesel engine cleaning from top to bottom

On behalf of a major oil group, the SGS laboratory carried out three diesel sampling tests on 11 May 2005.

Diesel fuel with XBEE additive has extraordinary cleanliness.

Between July 2003, when the tank was brought into conformity, and 11 May 2005, more than two million litres of diesel oil had passed through it.

In July 2003, STAO Laval had to ask a specialised company to convert its 50,000 litre diesel tank to comply with the enhanced safety standard. The company, GDDC e.mat, typically recovers 7-10% of dirty fuel that needs to be treated and recycled. Thanks to XBEE, it is less than 1% of the fuel that was considered dirty and 0.3% that could not be reused after sedimentation.

 

Fuel tank cleaning and contaminant removal

Following this inspection of the diesel tank, the company sent a letter to STAO Laval to present its findings:

“During the cleaning of the tank, we observed that there was less residue than we normally find. In fact, we normally recover during such an operation between 7 and 10% of the fuel and hydrocarbon sediments that cannot be used.

As for their storage tank that has not been cleaned in the last 5 years, we would have had to “declassify” about 3 to 4,000 litres of product full of sediments and other impurities. We were very surprised to recover only 350 litres (or less than 1%) when the tank was dry. […] After a week of sedimentation, we were able to recover about 200 litres…”.

The company had been informed during the inspection and emptying of the tank that the diesel was treated with XBEE technology since the beginning of the year:

This XBEE enzyme which we did not know existed until today and which it has used since January 2003 is indisputably capable of cleaning tanks and removing all impurities (sediment, bacteria, algae and fungi, etc.) that are present in some fuels.

In addition, it reduces the costs of the destruction of fuel residues.
In your particular case, that is almost 4000 litres of dirty diesel that we did not have to transport to a specialised unit for recycling.

In the end, a permanent treatment should avoid the need to clean the tank, as it is advised to do so every three to five years.
